PROFILE

Cellist Keina Satoh is quickly garnering international recognition as a skilled soloist and chamber musician. In 2023, she participated in CHANEL Pygmalion Days in Japan, where she gave five recitals at NEXUS Hall in Ginza, Tokyo, throughout the year. Satoh is a sought-after soloist and has performed with many renowned orchestras, including the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra and the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra.

She also performs regularly as a chamber musician and orchestral player and has collaborated with leading artists such as Seiji Ozawa, Kyoko Takezawa, Dai Miyata, and Miyuji Kaneko.

Satoh has won first prize at various competitions, including the 74th Student Music Concours of Japan, where she also received the Mainichi Shimbun Encouragement Award and the NHK Chairman’s Award, and Kings Peak International Competition in 2021.

Born in Aichi, Japan, Satoh began playing the cello at the age of three through the Suzuki Method. She earned her undergraduate degree from The Juilliard School, where she studied with David Finckel and Clara Kim. She then completed her Master’s degree at the Colburn Conservatory under the guidance of Clive Greensmith.

During her studies at The Juilliard School, she was supported by the Elaine Lambert Scholarship, the Norman and Rosita Winston Scholarship, and the Yamaha Music Foundation. While attending Walnut Hill School for the Arts in Massachusetts, she was awarded the Tan Family Foundation Scholarship. She also studied at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School with Emmanuel Feldman.

Satoh has performed at numerous prestigious international festivals, including the Pablo Casals Festival in France, MusicAlp in Austria, the Ozawa International Chamber Music Academy Okushiga in Japan, the International Cello Institute in the United States, and the Kirishima International Music Festival in Kagoshima, Japan. Her musical development has been further enriched through masterclasses with Frans Helmerson, Wen-Sinn Yang, Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi, and Dai Miyata.

Satoh is currently pursuing a postgraduate degree at Mozarteum University in Salzburg, Austria, studying under Giovanni Gnocchi.
